It seems that everyone is missing the point I'm making. You're all telling me how Apple software (and hardware) is of good quality. And I AGREE with that!!!!!!!!!!!!

The point I'm making is that Apple was the pionner and the worst there ever was (even though they're not alone, microsoft, sony and others) at restricting users' freedoms.

I'm talking about FREEDOM, *not* quality, and not even price (just a bracket I made about the price of apple computers, which is just a side note).

I would like to quote Richard Stallman, the president of the free(*) software foundation
Richard Stallman wrote:Steve Jobs, the pioneer of the computer as a jail made cool, designed to sever fools from their freedom, has died.
(*) free as in freedom not price.

Now if you don't care about freedom, and practicalities are more important than freedom to you, then it's your choice. But don't make me say what I didn't say

My Mac gives me freedom of creation like no other more complicated or inefficient system would.

Again, everyone has a different notion of freedom.

The way I see it, you have a choice between product A and product B (or between A, B and C) and you pick the one that best suits you. In the end there is no more to be said about it than that.

You made it seem that you think there are no valid reasons to choose an Apple product over a competing product. There are. Don't assume they're the same reason for everyone either. They're not.

Of course, you can buy A, B, or C. And not matter which one you buy, you can always install X in them ;-)

Stallman was correct. A more complete statement would also have mentioned severing fools from their money as well.

Oh yes, he was right... Big time! But unfortunately Apple will continue their evil doing in his absence...

Perhaps this link will give some insights as to the freedom issues I'm referring to, for those who are not aware

BTW guys, this thread has not much to do with programming... So if someone complains I'll have to move it to CTF.

???????

This is FAR closer to chess programming than to CTF topics.

I mean, we DO use computers, the O/S is important, the tools are important, availability/compatibility is important. Etc...

And the "Apple is evil/Apple is great" "fan/hate-boys" wars that one can read all along teenagers fora has a lot to do with chess programming, for sure. ;)

The best moderation is "no moderation". So what if it includes a little jibe at apple here and there? There is information content that is useful...
