Re: The Correct Solution?

Post by Howard E »

Hi Paulo,

It's OK to be old !
I've seen this position re-surface every few years.
It's fun to view the reactions of those seeing for the first time.
Hope all is well with you.

Yes after exactly 5 years this is still VERY DIFFICULT. Even after executing 6(!) moves like 1. Qxe5 fxe5 2. Rf1 a6 3. Bxa6 Qe7 engines take long time to see white's win

[D]6kr/4q2p/Bpr1P1pB/4p3/4P3/2P5/PP5P/5RK1 w - - 0 1

Analysis by Houdini 1.5a x64:

4.Bb7

4.Bb7
+/= (0.40 ++) Depth: 31/71 00:10:52 2161mN, tb=20
4.Bb7
+/- (1.30 ++) Depth: 31/88 00:24:45 4991mN, tb=85
4.Bb7
+- (4.69 ++) Depth: 31/88 00:34:43 7037mN, tb=229

And may be this is not the best defence for black?

This looks like one of those positions that you will need Deep Blue III, or Hydra to solve.

I've posted a full analysis of the position after 24.Qxe5 fxe5 a few posts above. 25.Rf1 wins for white.

Try, try and don't cry!
We are believing that the top engines are able to sacrifice Queen in such positions.
Don't wait for Sting's source code! :lol:
Maybe, I can't be friendly, but let me be useful.
