tchess has a very nice 3D chessboard. also you can setup any kind of time control. and it uses 2 cores in analysis mode (when i remember it right).
and... last but not least... tom kerrigan is a nice guy. |
LOL, Okay I have been sold. Buying it right now!
Thanks
EDIT: Bought the Pro version |
Just downloaded the free stock fish app. And it is awesome!
After having the IPad for a month and spending some time with the chess apps I can say the following:
1) The app I spend the most time with is Chesstiger! I use it when playing through games out of a game collection because of its very nice variation feature! I also like playing games against it as the Chesstiger engine is fun!
2) I spend the second most time with Shredder and Chessimo. Shredder for a great opponent (although Shredder really needs timed games) and endgames because of table base access. Chessimo, because it is GREAT for training! Shredder also has tactics puzzles.
3) I really like to play against Hiarcs and now Stockfish. Hiarcs has nice analysis functions and great timed choices. Stockfish looks really nice!
4) TChess pro is a great app but it does not knock me out. It has the ability to annotate pgn files so that is nice but I am not as enabled with the GUI as other people are. Not a necessary app for me.
5) IGrandmaster outlived its usefulness rather quickly.. And so did Chess by Mastersoft. They have been removed from my IPad. Unless you really need to have all progrms don't waste money on these two programs.
6) Unless another major app comes along like a Fritz chess update or something, I think I a, good for IPad chess apps for now.
tChess Pro IS a great app. The 3D doesn't excite me too much. It doesn't on Shredder either.
But tChess has great time control options. That I like!
After spending some time with tChess Pro, I would say that for ME, my three essential Ipad chess apps are:
Shredder, tChess Pro and Chess(Chess Tiger)
As per the norm none of them do everything but together they give me everything I need!!
(and I do really like the Hiarcs app as well) |
