I am able to improve the SP version myself as long as it doesn't require sophisticated programming, but Don has also been able to make improvements even when he's not well enough to work on MP, because a program change takes just a few minutes (sometimes), while MP will require many hours of hard work. But Don is feeling well enough now, and is back to working on MP.

If "long term future" means 10 years, we may have a problem, but I think Don will be able to work productively (but not full-time) on Komodo for the next 3 years or more. As for myself, my only real problem is my age, but so far my chess results have not deteriorated much so presumably neither have my abilities to work on chess programs.
