Uh no, for the reason I already stated. To be more clear, this was quite a complex ride and I have chosen the easy way out not to complicate matters further. I have no intention to further develop the system (I know I have said that more ) other than to document the system.Werner wrote:You did not optimize this code for 1CPU ?

Any plans for implementing running on more cores (4 or 8 or 16)?
Graham.

You can not turn off the database search, even if you would manage it will play exactly as ProDeo 1.88. If you don't like the program in its current form siimply don't test itWerner wrote:Hi Graham, I am not sure - how to stop this engine using all the databases?Graham Banks wrote:Pretty sure that ProDeo 1.88 was okay too?

PS: here Rebel TNG uses 58% of a quad - more than 2 CPUs

You mean SMP? No. Nothing to do with chess, just pesky thechnical stuff I dislike.Graham Banks wrote:Still a great gift to the community.Rebel wrote:Uh no, for the reason I already stated. Ed maybe it is possible a version with and a version without database search?Rebel wrote: You can not turn off the database search, even if you would manage it will play exactly as ProDeo 1.88. If you don't like the program in its current form siimply don't test it

Yep, that did the trick!Rebel wrote:My bad!Kaj Soderberg wrote:Hi Ed,
Thank you so much for Rebel TNG. Wonderful news.
One thing though. I cannot get the engine run in analysis mode in ChessPartner. In Arena no problem.
I tried installing in different ways in CP, Winboard 1 and 2 and also Native, but no response in "analysis mode" or in "analyse position" mode. I also changed the "Special" item under "Level" to "Infinite". but no luck.
Normal play works just fine in CP.
Any ideas?

Kaj

If Rebel TNG launches two threads I don't see how it uses more than two CPUs. But why not test Rebel TNG as a two threads engine? That seems fair enough to the other programs?Werner wrote:Hi Graham, I am not sure - how to stop this engine using all the databases?Graham Banks wrote:Pretty sure that ProDeo 1.88 was okay too?

If it's just a polling thread and no 'search' related thread it starts to become unfair.
So far as I understand Rebel is a single core engine.

I am curious if there was something special and indispensable about Prodeo v1.88 (as opposed to the earlier versions 1.86 and 1.87) so that perhaps Rebel TNG could be based solely on it... (?)
The reason I'm asking is that v1.88 seems to be markedly weaker than the previous ones (about 100 points weaker on the CCRL 40/40 list). Could Rebel TNG have been even stronger if based on either prior version instead of 1.88?
Thanks,
CL

Yes, the 1.88 results are odd. I think I messed up, don't know how. And since TNG is based on 1.88 (no other change than adding the pattern knowledge) you could be right that I took the wrong version as a base for TNG.The reason I'm asking is that v1.88 seems to be markedly weaker than the previous ones (about 100 points weaker on the CCRL 40/40 list). You are welcome Carl. Thanks,CL
