If 822 looks low...

Post by Gurcan Uckardes »

My advices:
* Try running CPU Stats to watch core freqs on notification panel also on status bar if you wish. Though I donno what it does with 8 cores. 4 cores shown perfectly on my devices.
* Use cputempstatusbar applet (needs xposed framework installed) to monitor cputemp.
* Check CPU governor. Max nodes come with performance. Interactive very close to it. On-demand is average. Hotplug is an anti-nodes depending on the CPU and the engine. Anyways Stockfish engine is always maxes the cpu's on Android.

If 8 cores throttle somehow or some are unplugged on the run, repeat the test in a refrigerator in 10C space. Funny but true. Can't throttle there if CPU starts from 30-35C.

I wonder why the Honor 6 is faster ?

i guess the mate7 should have a little newer cpu, hisilicon 925 or stuff like that while the honor6 has 920 or so. are you sure all cpus are used ?

822 sounds like there are some cpus missing or there are apps in the background. also make sure the mobile is not HOT (as some other user told you).

ich denke nicht das du das handy vorher in den kühlschrank legen musst.
schalt es aus. lass es einen moment liegen und warte. dann hochfahren und nochmals benchmark machen.

mate 7
HiSilicon Kirin 925 Octa-Core-Prozesor bigLittle-Architektur
4 Cortex-A15 1,8 GHz
4 Cortex-A7 1,3 GHz

honor6
HiSilicon Kirin 920
4 Cortex-A15 1.7 GHz
4 Cortex-A7 1.3 GHz

i doubt there is that much difference.

of course the mate7 would be more interesting for chess because of the big screen.

Ok thanks Thorsten,
I repeated the test after a new start of the smartphone and got better results:
1) 1187 after 141 seconds
2) 1252 after 139 seconds
3) 1132 after 123 seconds
How often is it necessary to measure??
Why do the nps become faster and faster with the time - it is even more after 160 seconds and starts very low.

I also used cpu stats: there is not allways 100 % - most times about 80% are shown.

Have a nice weekend

Re: ascend mate 7

it takes a while until the peak has reached. then NPS decreases.
i have made the experience that it is arround 2' and then the NPS decreases.

so the mobile/phablet has a very good value.

lets look forward to the day when china throws out the meizu mx4.

as far as i read it has an Mediatek MT6595 octa core.
ARM Cortex-A17 Quad Core 2,2 GHz and ARM Cortex-A7 Quad Core 1,7 GHz.
could be this mobile phone is another surprise.

AFAIK You can only use 4 cores at a time with Big.Little architecture. Did you try doing benchmark with 4 cores then 8 cores and saw NPS difference?
Was you first result of 800k+ using only 4 cores?

thanks

Was you first result of 800k+ using only 4 cores?
thanks
I tried with 4 cores now too - result was around 930 K.
My first result was with 8 cores - but I had some background apps running and the phone was a bit warm inside the case.

FWIW, Stockfish 32 bits, running on a Lenovo Miix 2 10 tablet (4 cores, Intel x86 Atom CPU), runs at 915.000 NS.

It's a tablet but it's a Wintel X86 device, so it's a PC without a keyboard. Although it's sold with one (it's a convertible).

AFAIK that new Intel quadcore CPU is 64bits so it has room for improvement if you use Stockfish 64 compile.
