"Hash Booster" option in Arena GUI

Post by Charly »

Hi,

I just saw today a new option I didn't noticed before : When an engine is loaded, when right clicking on the name, then on "Commands", you'll find "Hash Booster"

When activated, it displays a H near the hash table amount in the engine line, at the bottom of the GUI.

On my two PC, it growth the initial HT value from 256 to a variable amount, depending on the engine.

BUT I'm not sure what is the purpose of this "Hash Booster" option.

I just find that :

Has anyone here already experienced this option ? If yes, can you explain me the real goal (Is it an HT amount optimisation ?)

Many thanks !

PS : I didn't find the way to post a screen capture here !

From what I see this "Hash Booster" option runs only with UCI engines.

For my UCI engines, it changes automatically the HT from 256 to 512 MB, for a 40/5 tournament.

Sounds sort of like Crafty's "adaptive hash" command. You give it a min and max, and the typical NPS for the hardware, and it will set the hash between those to bounds to something that is reasonably close to optimal for whatever time control is set. I use this on ICC all the time so that I don't play bullet with huge hash or 120 0 games with small hash.
