Auto232 Driver for DOS (and Windows?)

Post by Theo H. »

Good evening!

Does anyone know where to get the old DOS-Auto232-driver? The one written by Chrilly Donninger. I've checked several dozens of links already and nothing works.

Kind Regards
Theo

Welcome to the forum. I was unable to find what you are looking for. I found the following things:

http://remi.coulom.free.fr/programs0046.tar.gz

https://web.archive.org/web/20010404052 ... r/~coulom/

https://web.archive.org/web/20010404052 ... 046.tar.gz

http://www.tim-mann.org/xboard/xboard232.tar.gz

Please note the trick of WayBack Machine, hosted at https://archive.org/. It does not work for ftp sites like this one (the auto232p.zip link):

https://web.archive.org/web/19990224063 ... ilitie.htm

You said that you tried dozens of dead links. Please try the WayBack Machine with those links if you did not use it before, just in case.

------------------------

You can search auto232 in Google Groups. For example:

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searc ... er/auto232

There is maybe some info there, once you get the driver from a good Samaritan.

------------------------

You can try posting this topic at General Topics subforum because it has more visits than this subforum. Good luck Theo.

Regards from Spain.

Likely that's because you need a modified nullmodem cable which served as copy protection.

But I suppose it must be possible to communicate between 2 programs each loaded in DosBox via ports redirecting the keyboard input to each port. Anyone having some demonstration code to offer?

The Auto232 driver was more than just reading from the port. It was also listening to the beeper and matching patterns from the framebuffer. According to Chrilly's description it would take some time to reimplement all that

I'd find it rather cool to have oldie progs running in DosBOX integrated as UCI-Engines in Arena. Auto232-driver (sources?) would be *very* helpful to have a bunch of programs to start with.
