Thanks again!
Roc can use 4G hash at the utmost? Tried just in Fritz14 GUI only.
Anyhow, good to see Gull-like engine being worked on,
Peter.

The hash table implementation is unchanged from Gull.

Yet in Fritz GUI Roc causes exception here using more than 4G, tried several times again and sometimes it worked up to 16G for a few seconds, crushing always at once with 32G, stable only up to 4.
Win7Prox64, 12core Intel Xeon X5650 48G RAM.

Edit: Installed in Shredder13 GUI, no problem there with 32G, seems to be a DF14- issue at my PC.

Edit edit: Yet crushing with 32 again, but at least 16 seems to work stable in S13.

I did some tests and basically I have not seen big improvements over Gull. There still is room for improvement on the code in terms of performance? why we should prefer this engine compared to Gull?
Thank you!

Don't know that till now neither, Eric, but why not have both of them, and how to know which one to be better if not testing them both? (which you already did do so too, as you say)

Eric's point is valid. I think Roc is slightly stronger than Gull, but not by much. The tests linked show a possible 40 Elo, but I expect less than that.

However, Roc has room to grow. I am making some improvements, and if I can find collaborators to help gather data I will also begin tuning the newly introduced parameters.

I think it is quite plausible that Roc could regain the ground Gull has lost to Fire and Andscacs. I think a world where Stockfish is the only major open-source engine is boring! I hope enough people will agree that together we can put up a good fight.
