wow awesome participants this time, i had a lot of fun but also some unlucky loses, first against ISA that it losed on time, pity, 7 point of 9 would be the second place for Tornado.

again, much thank to HGM for this blitz online tournament, its becomes more and more popularity last times.

may be we can also playing 11 rounds next time if possible.

good night all !

I am not sure more rounds is a good idea. We could switch from plain Swiss to the McMahon system, however. Then we could start (with 40 engine) the weakest 3 (rating-wise) with 0 points, 35-37 with half a point, 32-34 with 1 point etc., until 17-19 start with 3.5. Number 1-16 would then all start with 4 points, so that none of the title candidates is unfairly advantaged.

This has the effect that weak play weak and strong play strong from the very beginninng. Now the first two rounds are mostly wasted by pitting strong versus weak, with a totally predictable outcome. So effectively you get two more serious rounds.

Does mamer support McMahon?

No, but it sounds like a easy change. It sorts the players by rating before the first-round pairing ayway. Assigning them a 'McMahon bonus' at that time should be easy (and it would not even require a re-sort). I could let the bonus ramp up in steps of a half point to just below half the number of rounds (so 4 for 9 rounds), with groups of 60% of the players divided by the number of steps. (So for 9 rounds you would ramp up from 0 to 4, i.e. 8 steps, and with 40 players that would give 'bonus bins' of 24/8 = 3 players.) The strongest 40% would then always get the same bonus, which seems enough to not distort the top ranking.

The past couple weeks I've been working on creating a new ICS from scratch + mamer. So this peaked my curiosity.

We need to give up on old FICS code, and go new school while retaining "old" schooll concepts.
