Asmfish 08-02 vs K11.2.2

[d]r4rk1/1p2pp1p/2bp2pb/2n5/1pP1P3/1P3P2/P1Q1B1PP/2R2RK1 w - - 0 1

From a human perspective position is objectively in balance, depsite the material deficit for black.

After shuffling the pieces for a very long time, asmfish overvalues the queen in the presence of minor pieces, and loses eventually.

right, seems like a perfect draw.

77.f4 was the decisive mistake.

on above diagram, draw is easiest to achieve after a4.
if white allows the black rook to a3, white position gets too passive, although still a draw, having to guard all the time the a2 pawn.

Jon,

Do you notice chess engines nps dropping after a while on the S8+? It seems a lot of phones do not have great cooling (and when people add cases which trap heat, it gets worse). I have seen a lot of phone throttle the cpu speed when they get warm. One of these days I need to get a new phone and wanted to see how the S8+ performs in terms of this.

Hi Mark. I play games on Galaxy S8+ when docked inside DeX station. The DeX Station comes with an integrated cooling fan, designed to kick in at higher operating temperatures.

I wonder if RAM may cause nps drop. 4 GB total RAM (OS consume 1.5 GB without anything running in the background) Leave me with 512 MB allocating per engine in 30m+30s games.

Once engine reach 512 MB, maybe that trigger nps drop.

Image

Mark: perhaps Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is better choise, considering RAM is 6GB contra 4.

Game 2:

Komodo sacrifice a pawn for obtaining pair of bishops. Komodo's king activity is proving ample compensation for the pawn. However Komodo is not able to break through.

Question for Mark: Is King walk heuristics adjusted in Komodo recently? My impression is that Komodo is more keen in letting the king taking a stroll, over the board. Maybe Komodo is inspired by Stenitz.
