Revised chess.com handicap match

Post by lkaufman »

Because chess.com discovered at the last minute that they had a problem with the castling rules of chess960 when a piece was removed, we had to change plans. So now it will be a three game match of normal chess with handicaps against IM Danny Rensch, starting at 5 pm today eastern time, then 1 and 5 pm tomorrow. The three handicaps are:

1. Exchange and a pawn: Komodo removes a1 rook and a2 pawn, Black removes b8 knight and starts with a8 rook on b8 (so equal castling rights0.
2. "Pawn and three moves": Komodo plays Black, removes f7 pawn, White gets to play 1e4 and 2d4 and still make the first move.
3. Two pawns and move: Komodo plays Black with b7 and c7 removed.

I predict Danny to loose game 1 and 3 and might draw game 2. I don't think he will win any game.

Danny Rensch on chess.com/tv just announced during the first Odds game that they intend to have an online computer chess tournament. He said they have hired a developer. It will be faster play level than TCEC, and will include live game analysis/commentary by humans. It sounds like they might have an official announcement in a week or so.

Komodo won the first game despite the early stages going very well for Danny. The score dropped to around knight odds level, but Komodo won despite no obvious blunders by Danny.

Jean Baptiste will again hit the bull's eye in predictions.
