it was little bit complicated and Houdini does not run perfectly in all cases - but you can get a game

Don't know why people bother with MacOS and Linux.
It seems to be fashionable or merely of snob value.
Windows is simply the best and most ordinary people are more familiar with it.
Criticizing Windows/Microsoft also seems to be the in-thing.

I don't agree with all of that but I do agree with your overall message. You choose Linux or Mac for chess and you make life very difficult for yourself.shrapnel wrote:Don't know why people bother with MacOS and Linux.

Back in the 80's I used to be one of the harshest critics of Microsoft that you could ever meet, and used OS/2 and OS2/Warp etc instead of Windows. But since the DOJ brought Microsoft into line, and after Microsoft reformed themselves and became better corporate citizens, and began producing decent operating systems from XP onwards, I became a fan of them. Linux would have been the logical step for me after OS/2, but no.
Apple to me is now the Microsoft of old, Corporate greed, the unacceptable face of capitalism, I won't touch their products with a bargepole.

Depends what you use it for.Modern Times wrote:I don't agree with all of that but I do agree with your overall message. You choose Linux or Mac for chess and you make life very difficult for yourself.shrapnel wrote:Don't know why people bother with MacOS and Linux.

If you're the typical young tournament chessplayer, who is a uni student - armed with his new MacBook Air - who likes to analyze his tournament games afterwards...a OSX version is great.
If on the other hand, you like to run engine tournaments, then there is a lot to be desired on the OSX platform.
Truth is, most chess program users fall into the former category.
This is why I as a heavy engine user, run windows in parallels on my MacBook Pro.
On another note, "the unacceptable face of capitalism" sounds a bit harsh...
Socialism getting cool again, it seems?
