Not quite sure if Black's lost already after 1...Rb6 too (in output line 5...g5 seems to be suboptimal to me already, at the end it's clear +- anyhow yet), but I'd be rather sure about that with 1...a3(?) I guess
4. Rb2 is a good move from Houdini, Ancalagon in the _014 versions, and presumably Stockfish a bit, have trouble finding, but have not checked it with Stockfish. Ancalagon now finds it and instead of 5...g5 we have 5...Bc4 as main line
I am happy with the new main line but I have not tested this version in games yet. It has several small changes to Scalefactor mainly but a little bit also to Bad bishop scoring. The bad bishop in opposite coloured mid- and endgame gets extra penalty for pawns on the same color but now (very smal amount at the moment, I don't even know if effect can be Elo measured) bonus points for attacking opponent pawns. I think the last change does not do very much, it is very indirect though and could have all sorts hidden effects
, it is very tricky
This mainly increases the value of both bishops in opp. col. bishops if there are many pawns, i.e. mid game, that at least is is what I want to achieve because:
In the middlegame, on the other hand, opposite-colored bishops have a different effect. With many pieces on the board we are not concerned so much with promoting pawns, as with attacking enemy weaknesses and threatening the king. Since one bishop can attack what the other bishop cannot defend, it is as if the player with the initiative has an extra piece! This makes the initiative very valuable, sharpening the situation and making the interplay of attack and defense crucial.
From:
https://www.chess.com/article/view/atta ... ed-bishops
This has never worked to my knowlede in Stockfish, although I don't know how often it was tried, and if it is even possible/true. But in this change both bishops get extra points so the difference is towards other pieces (the value goes up, then it makes sense to exchange them with Knights which is what you want if opponent has a good bishop because you can't do it with your opposite colour bishop. And it depends on the 'cooperation' with opponent pawns just like in the material imbance table. You can't put it in the table because it depends on the colour of the squares they are on
(And Stockfish Scalefactor thus far only works for the endgame part of score! So I could not do it here, but that may be good, I had to make it just a bit more specific
) So it is tricky but in theory it is sound, but you don't know any side effects that come from destabilizing the tuning in imbalance table for instance...
Of course you would want bonus points from opp. col. bishop in King Safety, pinning, threats too but I have gone for the simple first thing that came to my mind. Simply attacking opponent pawns because he can't defend them with his bishop is not really high level GM strategy but who knows...
