What causes the score to suddenly rise near mate ?

Post by MahmoudUthman »

I see it often in stockfish and sometimes in my engine , for example it is usal to see a score in the range of 20 to 30 pawns before the engines sees a mate wich I think is due to material advantage coupled with hugh king safety bonus , but one time the engine reported a score equal to 64 pawns before it saw a mate , even though there weren't much material left "Idon't remeber exactly but I don't think there were enough pawns to introduce such value through promotion" and the maximum bonus of the king safety is around 8 pawns ?

You should be able to answer this question for your own engine.

Do you show output on a fail-high in combination with aspiration windows? It could be that.
