It is difficult to be all things to all demands. Unlike pawn hash, material hash never seemed to be of much benefit. The extra hash calculation was little improvement over simply adding up the material. Even if multiple promotions are unlikely to be found in a principal variation, the search still has to be prepared to identify and reject multiple promotions.

It is not clear if material inadequacy is reason to reduce depth or prune for futility. Stockfish can squeeze a win out of KRKN unless the other engine can search deep enough to find the refutation (or there is an egtb).
