A problem in the PGN headers may be that you have an additional pair of squared brackets [...] inside the pair of the squared brackets for the tag content, e.g.

Code: Select all

[Annotator "game 10538, depth=23 val=17 filter=[-60/60] s"]
Here some programs may think the tag ends after ...60] but find "irregular" characters after it in the line. I think (-60/60) would be more compatible.

All my older SALC pgn had these square brackets in the Annotator Tag. And Graham Banks wrote, that he had no problems to build books out of these older files..so, that cannot be the problem, ChessGUI has now with SALC V5...

So, I hope, that my little update to SALC V5.01 will help.

New version SALC V5.02 is now online.

Here the complete changelog since V5:

V5.01:

- All pgn-files loaded in WinWord and saved it as plain MS Windows text, to make "strange stuff" signs
go away. So, ChessGUI should be able to load the pgn-files - hopefully.

- In the SALC_V5_hc_10m.pgn-file (the huge 25000 positions-file for bookmaking), all "val=x" (evals
of Komodo 11.2.2, written in the Annotator-Tag by pgnscanner) made double-digit.
Means for example: val=-5 was changed to val=-05.
So, it is much easier to filter positions by the val-value in the FritzGUI:
Example: Search (and delete?) val=5* and val=-5* will delete all evals from 0.50 to 0.59
and -0.50 to -0.59 without finding and deleting val=5 and val=-5

V5.02:

- deleted 4 buggy games out of SALC_V5_hc_10m.pgn-file - thanx to Fulvio Benini for pointing out that rare
bug!!! I see no need to rebuild the opening-books, because the 4 games (out of 25000 (!)) had a correct
evaluation of Komodo 11.2.2 in the endposition and so, it should not lead to a lost game, if one of that
4 lines is played by the book.

- replaced the string in the Annotator-Tag "filter=[-60/60]" with "filter=(-60/60)", because some people said,
the square brackets could lead to problems. I dont think so, but this is the save way...

Thank you, Graham. I am glad to see, that the pgn now worked in ChessGUI. I would like to include the ChessGUI-book to my download-package, but I need a jpg-picture of the recommended book-settings, too.
Take a look in the folders FritzGUI, ShredderGUI, ArenaGUI in my download...
settings: wide, not tournament and playing until move 10 (20 plies). I dont use the ChessGUI, so I cant do this. Please add such a jpg-picture to the book-download - and I will include it in my download-package.

Thanx in advance - Stefan (SPCC)

Hi Stefan,

ChessGUI just uses the exit position of each line in your pgn.

Graham.

Why only 6357 booklines??? All endpositions.of the SALC V5 pgn file are unique. So, there are 24996 different lines in the pgn-file (all doubles were filtered by pgn-extract and I checked the EPD-SALC V5 file with a.text-website-double tester for doubles, too. So, I am sure, there are 24996 different endpositions/lines in the pgn!
