ICGA Prize Fund - 5000 Euro

Post by mjlef »

The following is from David Levy:

The ICGA is pleased to announce that the World Computer Chess Championship tournaments in Stockholm (July 13th-19th) will have a total prize fund of 5,000 Euro (approximately USA$6,000).

Before deciding how to allocate this prize fund we would like to hear from prospective participants as to how they believe the money should be split. In particular we would appreciate input on two questions:

[a] How should the 5,000 Euro be split between the World Computer Chess Championship, the World Chess Software Championship (uniform platform event), and the Would Computer Speed Chess Championship?

Should the total for each tournament be given as one prize, or should there be two prizes or three?

Please let me have your input not later than May 6th, to davidlevylondon@yahoo.com

Kind regards to all.

There remain € 275 that could be spend in drinks and food for the participants.

On the other hand, I think you have to pay an entry for playing, although it is not great, I would make it free for all participants.

I think Mark meant that suggestions should be sent to David Levy :)

Personally I'd prefer WCCC and WCSC to be peer events, i.e. with same prize-money.

I will see that David sees the postings here as well as the ones sent directly to him. I think it is good to discuss this openly.

I am not sure what conditions came with the donation, and if it needs to be solely used as prize money. But I can check with David.

Thanks for the feedback. I asked David if the donation could be used for things other than prize money. He responded:

"Only for the prizes. I'll arrange something about drinks and snacks on top of this."

so this can only be used for prizes. But looks like he has some other money for other things. And I know there is some money for travel expenses.

You know, in an indirect way, the money ls mostly likely to go to food in drinks. In past years, it is common for winners to buy drinks (and sometimes meals) them for everyone!
