Re: Stockfish NNUE style

In principle, I can't see why a net can't be trained on the evaluation of a very optimistic and aggressive engine, such as CyberNezh or OpenTal, and then the resulting net would hopefully reflect that style. In practice, things could turn out differently, though. I hope to eventually learn how to t...

Re: Recommended hash size for NNUE.exe

Zenmastur, considering that Sergio's nets are about 20 MB, what would be the recommended hash size for the NNUE engine file, assuming one has ample RAM on the system? Nodes take up the same amount of RAM as regular SF. I think there is no need for extra ram - just use what you would normally use fo...

Re: SF-NNUE going forward...

[...] I think splitting it by number of plies played is a mistake. You can be in an endgame in 40 plies. Better to do it on the number of pieces and pawns left on the board. Every capture decrements the piece count by one so it's easy to keep track of. The other advantage is the depth of search can...

Re: SF-NNUE going forward...

Haven't read all of this thread so excuse me if it was already mentioned: tttak's fork has a lot of different architectures to try out. I'm interested in the "Gameply40x4" one which effectively holds 4 NNs in one file which get used sequentially switching every 40 plies until the 4th is loaded. This...

Re: Stockfish NN release (NNUE)

It is now easily possible to use any pgn as training data! First, use this pgn-extract command: pgn-extract: pgn-extract --fencomments -Wlalg --nochecks --nomovenumbers --noresults -w500000 -N -V -o output_file_name input_file_name and then: learn convert_bin_from_pgn-extract output_file_name output...

Re: My strongest NNUE net (yet)

Quick test 30 + 0.2 of your net (stnnuecl1) against the previous best net known for me. Yours is a bit better: # PLAYER : RATING ERROR POINTS PLAYED (%) 1 stnnuecl1 : 2868.0 10.7 269.0 504 53.4% 2 stnnue : 2844.0 10.7 235.0 504 46.6% Now testing it against the latest one of Additional Pylon halfkp ...

Re: My strongest NNUE net (yet)

I put it and the half-k application in a folder, and tried to install in the Fritz-17 gui, but apparently there is something else I need to do as it won't load. I have a recent (1 year old) 8 core I-7 laptop, windows 10, with a good GPU (not needed for this I believe). What else do I have to do? Pu...

My strongest NNUE net (yet)

I've trained a new 256x halfkp net which came within 20 elos reach of SFdev. Previous nets were at least 70 elo weaker than SFdev. TC was 1+1 and I used the 8 moves opening book from Fishtest. You can get it here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bBjsoifqKtXCuYCzH-xrEQ_k0btrxjzJ/view?usp=sharing It ...

Re: nnue-gui 1.0 released

This GUI would be complete if you integrated a converter for pgn to the needed training data format. That includes fen, eval, outcome and then is huffman encoded. That would enable us to use CCRL/Lichess data which has a lot of annotated games with depths beyond 20. On my own I'm barely able to gene...

Re: Stockfish NN release (NNUE)

I have a halfkp384 net trained. It is 50% slower than the 400kb one while being 30mb in size. At 30+0.3 with my crep net with a ccrl estimate at 3461 (thanks muppetmuppet!) the big net won 123/220/57. (FT 2 moves opening book, other testers have less of an elo gain but they are also in the error bar...
