Re: Interesting read about Fat Fritz 2

There are some early indications that FF2 is a somewhat improved analysis partner (over regular SF). I can see that even with the weaker net that was freely distributed. CB is trying to make a similar case. Elo is not everything. The (bleep) are you talking about? I would love to see these indicati...

Re: Why I stood up for Allie is why I stand up for FF2

So, if they had just called out clearly that it was a neural network instead of an engine, it would be ok? Too easy. From the ChessBase announcement: “First implemented in chess in Stockfish 12, now it powers the new Fat Fritz 2, a neural network twice its size, which takes it to the next level – v...

Re: We are the Computer Chess Community. We control ourselves.

Somewhere buried amongst the vicious internet hyenas. That chess programmers are so stupid. That they need somebody to tell them how strong their engine is??? Really? That's ridiculous. I know exactly how strong my engines are! If I could send 10 different versions to these lists and pick the stron...

Re: We are the Computer Chess Community. We control ourselves.

I'm confused about this. More supply arising due to increased demands makes sense, but why the street drugs exactly? Are you arguing that having engines on these ratings lists encourages cloning? Yes. I'm sure that right now, Silver and ChessBase would prefer that FF2 not be on the CCRL or Pohl's. ...

Re: Interesting read about Fat Fritz 2

Open-Source GUI hype. If one of those was actually designed for the average player and their analysis, and came preloaded with some nice open-source engine... This community would have to find some design talent, though. One only has to look at the TCEC GUI, which is extremely functional in a bleak ...

Re: We are the Computer Chess Community. We control ourselves.

That I don't disagree, but if it simply boils down to having "demands", then it is no better than people selling street drugs(some designer ones are even legal). I'm confused about this. More supply arising due to increased demands makes sense, but why the street drugs exactly? Are you arguing that...

Re: We are the Computer Chess Community. We control ourselves.

I don't see how it is a beneficial thing to do to make a gigantic list of entries that are irrelevant. ... So I'm quite mystified on what the standards being for them in technical terms other than having a skill set involving anus licking. Ratings lists answer the question, "How strong is X engine ...

Re: We are the Computer Chess Community. We control ourselves.

As much as people don't like Houdini, Fire, FF, etc, they need to be rated somehow. Having been able to point to the CCRL and Pohl's and be like, "Look at what the independent testers show!" has been extremely valuable. Is there anybody whose opinion matters, that will look at the ratings list and n...

Re: Interesting read about Fat Fritz 2

https://www.chess.com/blog/the_real_greco/fat-fritz-ii-and-stockfish-a-computer-chess-controversy This part is amusing. Never trust an author's claims about his own engine. Wait until someone else tests it. There are a number of reasons why ChessBase's results might be misleading. First is the stra...
