Re: What engine breaks even with GMs in blitz?

This is quite surprising to me, not that the simulated GM won, but a 20 to zero score seems unbelievable. I feel something must be wrong with your estimated elo for SF 1 million nodes. You are saying that current SF on one thread on a fast pc with about half a sec per move, roughly like game in hal...

Re: Middlegame positional test-suite

Hi Kai, Nice set of positions. Thank you for positing / sharing. 260 of the positions from both the opening and midgame positional suites, were not found in an epd database I have been collecting; Of these 260, the following 8 positions are not solved within 100s by Stockfish 10, Xiphos 0.5, Ethere...

Re: What engine breaks even with GMs in blitz?

I ran the same test as you did overnight, except that I ran at the actual 45' + 15" level under discussion instead of your 15' + 5" level. So far I have five wins for Arasan 14.3, no wins for Lc0 11248, one draw, and the current game pretty clearly a draw so call it two draws. My 2080 is about 20% ...

I also tried Chesscombi v1 and didn't get any positive results. In my opinion this adapter has bad assumptions.
Based on its output I concluded it is buggy.

Re: Trying out the Leela Hybrid engine (NN with AB)

I'm sure you're right. I used the ready-to-use solution, but it seems to me that 3 engines is too much. You should use two to avoid the problem of what you write. The easiest would be to play Leela for say 35 moves, and then switch to Stockfish. There is a tool that theoretically does that, ChessCo...

Re: Middlegame positional test-suite

Interesting test! Middlegame phase of the game, roughly moves 15-22. So after 23 it's endgame? :) No, not enough strong human games per position later in the game in my combined databases. Even this test-suite often has meager statistics of outcomes, only helped very moderately by engines' opinions...

Re: Middlegame positional test-suite

There are about 100 of the 450 positions in the test sets for which I have a different answer for best move than those provided. I guess that many of mine are wrong (of course) but might be worth examination. I only analyzed these with SF, so I would be very interested to see the results of LC0, Ko...

Re: What engine breaks even with GMs in blitz?

I do not see a reason to assume that LC0 with adjusting the time control can mimic a 2800 fide level human opponent better than A-B engines. I guess that LC0 knows too much things in the evaluation that 2800 GM's do not know. I guess that if A-B engines fail to mimic 2800 humans because of a relati...

Re: What engine breaks even with GMs in blitz?

I ran a twenty game blitz (3' + 2") knight odds match (two ply book for variety, both b1 and g1 knights) between Lc0 11248 (on my 2080) vs. Giraffe (best version, on my 5 GHz i7 laptop), with Giraffe as a proxy for Magnus Carlsen, a good one since it "knows" to simplify when up a piece while some s...
