An idea for different type of competition between engines
The idea is that instead of games from the initial position the sides start from a position when one side is obviously winning and play 2 games when the winner is the side who mate in less moves. For example this may be the starting position of all the games rnbqkbnr/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/RNB1KB...

Re: UCI_Elo 1500 engines and FIDE Elo
I am not sure if regression from 2019 is reliable.
I am not sure if lichess rating X of 2019 is the same as lichess rating X of 2021.

Re: Larry Kaufman
Larry has added another success to his career. Dragon Komodo won the First TCEC Swiss Tournament. Congrats to Komodo Team (Mark and Larry) https://wiki.chessdom.org/TCEC_Swiss_1 Those who say 22 games less should not forget that the world chess champion is determined by 12 games. Thanks. Other than...

Re: PST-only Evaluation for MinimalChess 0.4
I doubt if everyone who use Pesto to replace their own tuned values sees a significant elo gain. I do not know about the values of Dumber but I believe that TSCP has not tuned values for piece square tables otherwise they could make knight and bishop equal more than rook and a pawn. Dumb/Dumber eva...

Re: PST-only Evaluation for MinimalChess 0.4
What is the ccrl rating of the strongest engine that uses PeSTO? RomiChess is a "minimal" chess engine. Well, afaik that would be the original PeSTO which plays at 3100 ELO! So the question becomes what is to be considered minimal and what is to be considered incomplete. I don't think an engine pla...

Re: Future progress of chess software in chess
Not exactly because using ideas of humans together with using alphazero's method is still better than using only alphazero's method.
Stockfish still test patches written by humans in order to get better and I think same for lc0.

Re: Knight odds test blitz match dragon vs GM Lenderman
This Thursday, April 8, from 1 pm to 5 pm Eastern Daylight time, we plan to play a four hour series of blitz games between the latest Komodo Dragon (MCTS mode) and GM Alex Lenderman (FIDE 2624 standard, 2642 Rapid, 2651 Blitz) on chess.com at knight odds. This is not a show, just a test of a propos...

Re: Knight odds test blitz match dragon vs GM Lenderman
I can add that without demotion it is better to resign if you see that you do not win even if you can probably still draw because you do not want to lose time. I can also add that the best strategy for dragon to prevent the GM to earn money is never to resign and to use almost all the time that it h...
