Re: Queens Gambit
I am of a similar opinion of the Netflix series Queen's Gambit - my wife (not a chess player) and I both love it! It is so rare to have anything about chess on TV. It is even more rare to see people discussing chess somewhat intelligently, having the board set up properly (white square for h1, Queen...

Re: Arena 3.9 beta for Linux
I find the piece set used in Arena 3.10 beta (and 3.9 beta for that matter - they seem the same) to be rather low quality with lots of rough edges (visually) on the pieces. Is there a way to get Arena to use other piece sets? Merida 1 as used in SCID looks great - but I it does not seem to be compat...

Re: These mobile engines play some really deep chess games.
Indeed. Long gone are the days when I struggled to find a program that could give me a challenging game. Smartphones have more than enough power and the software to soundly defeat any human in a match. Thank goodness for the ability to set these beasts to lower levels so that I can have a chance onc...

Re: About stockfish's optimizing for bullet
I think they should move to standardise at a longer time control. At least give it a try. How can that be given a try? It would mean that vastly fewer tests can be run. Less tests does not mean less elo. I believe it is better to have less tests at longer time control in order to improve long time ...

Re: benchmark new smartphones:
Decided I did not like the iPad Air screen ( too much wasted real estate for tv/movies), took it back and xchanged it for the iPad Pro 11" model. This is the best score, average is about 8300. Also, this is the 8 core CPU, iPad Air was just 6 cores. Mike - welcome to the club! I also have an iPad P...

Re: Chess Analysis, Linux and Python
I use SCID (http://scid.sourceforge.net/) to work with PGN game collections and analyze the games using Stockfish. It's not clear to me how you make use of Python to help analyze your games, so I cannot comment much other than to say that Python runs on Linux as it does on many platforms so in theor...

Re: LC0 for iPad?
Is anyone working on porting LC0 (if that's the right term) to the iPad? My iPad is my main chess playing/analysis platform these days. You are using websites on iPad for playing and analysis I guess. Or you are using apps? Which one ? I am running apps on the iPad. Apps like "Analyze This" (which ...
