Re: iPad Pro with A9X-chip

@Paul : Yes, the numbers are NPS. This is not a very scientific measurement, considering that testing Stockfish on a Galaxy S7 during one minute is probably like testing it for hours on a Palm Pre : to get a comparable result to the one on the Palm Pre, we should measure the NPS after a few seconds...

In chess, graphics don't matter, floating point either. Integers math and L1 cache decide!
Thanks for this! 8-)

Re: benchmark new smartphones:

I suspect that there's a strong correlation between these numbers and the GeekBench 3 results. It would be easy to take a sample and check: in a spreadsheet, the correlation function is CORREL. If the outcome is close to 1, then we can say that the chess performance of a device will be close to its ...

Re: benchmark new smartphones:

It is still mysterious that the iPhone 6S gets a geekbench 3 score of 1605, whereas the Honor gets a geekbench 3 score of 2990 Here: https://browser.primatelabs.com/ios-benchmarks iPhone 6S get 2490 in single-core and 4331 in multicore in geekbench 3 at the same time: https://browser.primatelabs.co...

Re: benchmark new smartphones:

with 8 core processors and a high clock speed, gets a lower score than the iPhone 6? Huawei Kirin 920 = ARM big.LITTLE: 4 cores Cortex-A15 + 4 cores Cortex-A7 It depends if big + LITTLE cores can be run simultaneously. Exynos 5410 can run either 4-A7 either 4-A15 cores Exynos 5420 can run both 4-A7...

Re: benchmark new smartphones:

Here comes the updated charts. The Galaxy S7 Edge is the European version, with the new Exynos. I set Stockfish to 8 threads, gave it 2GB of hash and let it run for one minute. I'd be curious to know the bench results of the American version, with the Snapdragon. It should be faster than the Exynos...

Re: Lee Sedol vs. AlphaGo [link to live feed]

My experience of playing human chess masters is that I think I'm doing better than I expected, then suddenly a win for the opponent emerges. If Crazy Stone genuinely had a good evaluation, it would be able to beat human opponents. Maybe it is weak at evaluating the "frameworks" that will eventually...

Re: Lee Sedol vs. AlphaGo [link to live feed]

Hi! Lee Sedol has won his first game in the match. 3-1 With the match victory in hand AlphaGo probably got lazy. :-) From the commentary, it looks as though AlphaGo played some inexplicably bad moves. I wonder if Google are trying to trap Ke Jie, the world's top-rated player, into accepting a chall...

Re: Lee Sedol vs. AlphaGo [link to live feed]

I awoke early, so I watched most of game 3. I found Michael Redmond's commentary annoying today. I may be overestimating, but today it seemed as though about 3/4 of the time he was guessing the next player's move wrongly, and then doing variations from a position that the viewer could see was never ...

Re: Lee Sedol vs. AlphaGo [link to live feed]

Starting a little earlier lets you see, and hear!, the placing of the stone and the reaction of the 9-dan pro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-GsfyVCBu0&t=1h17m40s He looks at the board. Then looks again and scowls. Then checks the board a 3rd time before placing the stone. Then checks it a few m...
