Re: What happens with my hyperthreading?

Hmm, so what's left? Windows SMT and maybe some kind of CPU micro-code update? -- Srdja Any possibility that before, other processes were consuming threads? Maybe if the older machine was slower, Windows itself needed more thread time. Or maybe it was a different installation, with more crap (Micro...

Re: What happens with my hyperthreading?

With mine i7 4790 4 physical cores, 8 logical, I seem to get a tremendous boost from hyperthreading with both SF_dev and SF NNUE, especially SF NNUE. Did something happened with Intel hyperthreading on Windows 10 and I am unaware of? A couple of ideas: 1. CPUs have become better at running threads ...

Re: Hey Ovyron ..

If you don't want to read somebody's posts, the best thing to do is to add them to your ignore list. Posting about not liking somebody's posts is difficult to see as positive behaviour when they're not being offensive.

Re: Hey Ovyron ..

The writing is of good quality, as well as being of high quantity: He is a "productive poster". The forum will be a little less vibrant when "peak Ovyron" has passed.

Re: benchmark new smartphones:

It would be interesting to run industry standard benchmarks and see how these correlate with NPS with various chess programs. Some suggestions: * Linpack. Long outdated software, but TOP500 still use it so that "fair" FLOPS comparisons can be made with the great supercomputers of old (your phone is ...

Re: SF NNUE absolutely smokes on AMD

What I did when compiling NNUE for the first time was forgetting to set CPUs to 4, so I thought my compile was running at 1/10 of the speed that it should, and spent 2 days looking for a solution. Which was... to set threads=4 instead of default threads=1! :) I would guess that if, like Dann, you h...

Re: SF NNUE absolutely smokes on AMD

I've heard someone who bought a ThreadRipper CPU complain that people who write software should use more threading, because now that processor is in his PC, it doesn't have enough processing to do! :)

Re: SF-NNUE going forward...

2. if you're only going to be training NNs, and not, say, modelling stampeding yaks, you'd probably be better off buying a TPU (tensor processing unit - a bit like a GPU, but all arithmetic in low precision). Google sell their TPU under the "Coral Edge" brand for some reason, and you can buy it as ...

Re: SF-NNUE going forward...

People need several expensive and power-hungry GPUs to beat Stockfish What is interesting is that those people got the GPUs for Leela. They still have the GPUs. The GPUs didn't just disappear. GPUs are marvelous, incredible things. I bought GPUs long before I found out they can be useful for chess....
