Re: Your motivation for writing a chess engine?
Nice post! Your thoughts are similar to mine. Before I started Maverick, back in 2013, I had created primitive engines but I knew I was capable of creating something better. Also, computer chess has been my main hobby since the mid 1980's, so I felt I owed it to myself to make something better. The ...

OT: Chess Pogchamps 3
This is slightly off topic but still related to chess, and it's such a revolution for the game that anyone vaguely interested in chess should know about it. Up until 2020 virtually all streamed chess games were between strong opponents. Then we had the Queen Gambit and lockdown which gave a massive ...

Re: Chess.com Game Report Calculations
I've been impressed with Chess.com's game report. It has just the right amount of detail. It shows the highlights (and low-lights) and accuracy measure is a nice single-statistic measure of how well you played in general. It would be nice if a desktop GUI could generate such a report from any game. ...

Re: Are Aspiration Windows Worthless?
I've never had any luck with aspiration windows for Maverick. I've always assumed it was down to a poorly tuned evaluation function and generally weak-ish engine. I've always thought that when searching the first move, the hash table would guide the search down the previous PV and the window would q...

M1 Apple Silicon for Chess?
Has anyone come any test attempting to measure how good the new Apple M1 Silicon will be for running chess engines?

Re: Regium Chess — Most likely an elaborate SCAM!!
IMHO a complete and utter scam! If this is an elaborate scam!! I am sold, but how do they get my money? Who is going to buy this without independent reviews. You do have to admit they do CGI very well for a bunch of scammers. If it is a scam. They need to be selling the CGI or stop motion...well don...

OT: Use the crisis to get more people playing chess...
During this global crisis online chess is an ideal activity for those stuck inside, especially kids. How about encouraging friend to play chess on social media? I created a meme, "Keep Calm and Play Chess" — feel free to use it (see attached), or download here: https://1drv.ms/u/s!Av-O51pdCYBghqhV_D...
