Re: A fair fight
I am staggered anyone thinks Alpha Zero would get over 60% It will not lose. It learned Super GM chess in only 4 hrs. This is not a chess program, it is a learning, cognitive, neural net. It mastered Go in 40 hrs., (GM) and became superhuman in 70 hrs. If it can defeat Stockfish after only 4 hrs. o...

Re: A Chess Novice Challenged Magnus
Ted, Max is playing as expected, a novice well below a 1000. He tossed his Night early in the opening then his Rook a few moves later.

Re: Is this position lost?
At a glance, it appears White is in trouble. The Black Night is a monster.Nordlandia wrote:For black.

White's queenside pawns are sick, hole on c4, etc. White needs tactics to extricate himself.

Re: Nice, yet not to hard mate in 3.
Qe6. Took me two minutes so I would not have seen it in a real game when in time trouble. Also then you get no hint that it is a mate in three. Isn't that the truth, no clue what so ever in a real game. As HGM states, in a real game you may have been planning for it. In that case chances are good t...

Re: Nice, yet not to hard mate in 3.
Same here LOL. It's really a very simple mate. based on the 2 Bishop smothered mate theme but my old brain felt rushed to answer..mistake! I needed to put more time looking at the Bc6 line rather than the Rd8 line. :? Surprised the White master missed it? Heat of the battle I guess? Regardles...

http://i65.tinypic.com/2n808wp.jpg White to move. !. Rxd5! That was the second line I looked at. On the third line I explored, I knew I had right away but it is a bit more 'Forcing'. I'm rusty!! I rejected Qxe6+!! *Ugh* 1. Qxe6+!!..Bxe6 (if ..Be7 2. Qxe7#) 2. Bc6+..Bd7 3. Bxd7# I'm old. :(

Re: Dragon Yugoslav 12...Qe8N
I think Qe8!? is too passive for the Dragon. White, in this computer game, appeared to have an easy time of it.
Who is using it? Or, is this a common line in computer games?

Re: Is Bxh6 as good as it looks?
Yes, there is no question at all. Firstly white gets 2 important pawn for a bishop, and gets a ruinous attack. White has a pawn on e5 to hamper defence. It shouldn't take many seconds for a human to give up the bishop and be confident of winning. Not so obvious. At first glance white needs one more...
