Re: Official Release of OliThink 5.7.5 including a Java-GUI

Thanks for fixing it so quickly. Of course, also thanks for such an interesting project. Thank you very much for your help! @Everyone for OliThink 5.8.7: Please use the Windows executable build on 17. Oct 2020 (not 16.) when you want to use ponder/analyze. I have another nice win against Rybka 2.3....

Re: Official Release of OliThink 5.7.5 including a Java-GUI

Since OlIThink 5.8.4 it's genereally not possible to Ponder, Analyze or Interrupt the Search with any ChessGUI in Windows . The cause is a change in the method to peek a key input, which seems not to be working for Chess Graphical Interfaces like Arena or Winboard. Linux and MacOSX work correctly. E...

Re: Official Release of OliThink 5.7.5 including a Java-GUI

The problem is related to pondering. I played some games between 5.8.0 and 5.8.7 with ponder on and book and without book and always time out. I played similar conditions with ponder off and always works fine. Thank you, this helps me a lot and I will have a look into it. Until the fix, playing wit...

Re: Official Release of OliThink 5.7.5 including a Java-GUI

1) Tournament is with pondering on. 2) Using the olibook.pgn that came with the distribution and both 5.8.0 and 5.8.7 make book moves. 3) Effectively it time out every game. With 5.8.0 and a few of the versions before that it was very rare to non-existent. 4) My observation is 2-5 moves out of the ...

Re: Official Release of OliThink 5.7.5 including a Java-GUI

I am seeing consistent time forfeit with 5.8.7 where OliThink plays a few moves and then times out while searching without making another move. I am using Arena 3.5.1 on Windows 10 playing tournament games at 5+1 seconds. The previous version I was using is 5.8.0 and it works very well. I see in th...

This happens with many older engines when I left chess programming in 2010.. They were beatable (at least by my chess engine OliThink) and fun. Now they are 300-500 ELO stronger, not beatable and boring. What happened?

Re: INTERESTING Engines with Unique Styles (Unlike SF)

I am weak at chess, I am interested in an engine with which will sacrifice a bit just to just charge down and get mate as quick as possible. Is there any engine which comes close to doing that ? You can use a medium strong engine like OliThink and start with an advantage, let's say the engine is on...

Re: Linux friendly engines at all levels

It would be great, Oliver, I'd appreciate that (pull request would be just awesome). Could you also post what the errors are? I have no idea what compilers are used on MacOS. As Jon said, "clang" is the typical MacOSX compiler, which is a more sophisticated compiler than gcc, but it should be 100% ...
