Re: interesting endgame

Here is another interesting position derived from the first one: [D] 8/5k2/7P/1P3bP1/p7/2P1P1K1/8/8 w - - Crafty discovers e4 is no good at depth 13, and switches to b6 which is winning. Takes a second or two however... Your wording makes it sound like White is winning after b6, but unless I am mis...

Re: How fast are new computer systems with chess!

A friend of mine wants a new computer for chess. He would prefer 8 64-bit cores, but to also keep the cost under control. What would people recommend for a cost effective motherboard/CPU combo preferably well under $2K for the MB+CPUs?

Hi Jon, Here is a third source for that same game, Tim Harding's Megacorr 4 CD. The date and names agree with Chessbase, but the game score is even shorter than both Chessbase and Opening Master. I suspect Megacorr is probably correct. It is quite frequent for published games to be longer than what ...

Some nice positions, Enrique, thanks. On my old dual Xeon 3.4, no engines I tried find the right move in less than 5 minutes. I don't know about the fastest PC's. I should have been more clear. There is no mate if Black doesn't capture the knight, it is a sham sacrifice that simply wins material against best defense.
