Re: Playing vs perfect player?

Maybe that would be random perfect player, that is, a perfect player that when facing with several options would choose one randomly, or maybe a PP who chooses randomly when best result would be draw or loss, but chooses the shortest path to mate when position is winning. If you choose the shortest...

Re: New engine: KnockOut 0.7

In fact the values are different, I replied by mind but forgot that I had changed these values some time ago. Sorry for that. The real values are 350-550-1100 for the opening and 360-550-1100 for the endgame, which is pretty much what had been recommended by Larry Kaufman some weeks ago. I tested h...

Re: Test Position: One-way street

ChessMind never considers Bxe7. It is slow as usual, though. rr4k1/2n1ppbp/q2p2p1/2pPn1B1/P3P3/2N2NPP/1PQ2PK1/R2R4 w - - Engine: ChessMind 0.82 (0 MB) by metax 8/19 0:00 +0.66 1.Nxe5 Bxe5 2.f4 Bf6 3.Bxf6 exf6 4.a5 Qc4 (156.217) 169 8/19 0:01 +0.66 1.Nxe5 Bxe5 2.f4 Bf6 3.Bxf6 exf6 4.a...

Re: question on draw evaluation

Same thing. Search will eventually end up at a 3-fold repetition or 50-move draw. That's the point of encoding these rules. Of course this is better done in the evaluation, and for this case (bishop + wrong rook pawn) many programs do evaluate it as an outright draw via special code in the eval. Cr...

Re: question on draw evaluation

It really isn't correct. Opposite colored bishops are not automatic draws. They become draws when you can't make progress and run into the 50 move rule or the 3-fold repetition rule. Search _can_ find that, given enough time, as I mentioned. Most opposite-colored-bishop games are not drawn. There a...

Re: New engine: KnockOut 0.7

What material values are you using? It seems to undervalue minor pieces a bit... at least it was happy to sacrifice a minor piece for 2 pawns several times and it also was happy to trade two minor pieces for a rook and a pawn, which is generally a rather bad trade.

ChessMind 0.82

I just released ChessMind 0.82. Changes to ChessMind 0.80: - better at tactics, this at the cost of lower search depth - improvements in evaluation, does not sacrifice pawns without any reason as often as 0.80 - some more UCI options (explained in the readme file) - improvements in time management -...
