Re: armageddon in norway chess

IMO, a scoring system that disincentivizes draws and rewards wins more, especially with Black, should be better than messing with the fabric of the game (by introducing weird variants). Such an alternate scoring system was discussed here a while ago - HGM made an interesting suggestion, but I don't...

Re: armageddon in norway chess

So Norway chess round 1 concluded with 5 draws, but White won 4-1 in the 10-7 (+3 sec inc from move 60) Armageddon game, Black getting less time but draw oddss. This suggests that Armageddon is valid in longer games than blitz, as was also shown in some U.S. Championship playoff games at odds like ...

Re: armageddon in norway chess

They do their best, the game is just too drawish as is. 50% draws is acceptable, but 75% or more is not, if we want people to be interested in chess. Wait, why is so much time and effort trying to save chess if it's a dying game and people could be playing a better game that isn't so drawish in nat...

Re: Komodo MCTS

"ply" has no real meaning in MCTS mode, we just display a number that is calculated from the number of Monte Carlo nodes, it's quite arbitrary. If ply stops increasing, it must be because you filled up the MCTS hash so nodes don't increase. Try a much larger setting for MCTS hash. Lqrry, is the MCT...

Re: Komodo MCTS

I ran Komodo MCTS overnight on late middlegame position with multi-PV =2 in Aquarium GUI. But, as usual, 30 ply is the deepest the search will go. Engine is given 4096 MB RAM. Is 30 ply the limit for Komodo MCTS? "ply" has no real meaning in MCTS mode, we just display a number that is calculated fr...

Re: armageddon in norway chess

Something I haven't seen mentioned in all these dicussions is, do players like it? It shouldn't matter how many draws are there or the games produced for the audience, I think the future of Armageddon chess will depend on the opinions of the players involved, and yet, I don't know what they think a...
