Re: Is AlphaZero-LC0 (Leela0) A chess Engine?

If you have been involved in computer chess for that long you will likely remember the same criticism being directed towards conventional chess engines. 15 years ago, maybe 20, many people dismissed them as stupid "bean counters". I also remember hearing then and today that conventional chess engine...

Re: GTX Titan video cards

I don't doubt it but that doesn't speak to the merits (which I am aware you are not discussing) of Bitcoin at all only that it's useful for anonymous online transactions. The value of all bitcoins in existence wouldn't amount to a fraction of a fraction of all illegal goods that are bought and sold ...

Re: GTX Titan video cards

Bitcoin is used all throughout the world by reputable businesses and customers alike and it's merit is unquestionable. What is your source for the extraordinary claim that it's almost always used for immoral purposes?

Re: It would be comical to see deeper blue 1997 in TCEC!

It seems strange that a 500 Elo difference on the CCRL scale would correspond to an Elo difference of less than 50 on the FIDE scale. To what extent do you think these results are influences by your choice of analysis engine and thinking time, which looks to be Rybka 3 at depth 14? Any chance of see...

Re: Giraffe dissertation, and now open source

Congratulations and thank you for your contribution! Some questions... 1) How does modifying the bootstrapping (adding or removing knowledge) change the rate of convergence and the maximum achieved on the STS? 2) What do you think are the next steps to break the apparent barrier seen after 72 hours ...

Re: Stockfish 100813 94a3608 versus Komodo 3 and Critter 1.6

This will conclude my 20" testing. Results should be close to Stockfish 4 as there is only one functional change between this development version and the released version that I am aware of. Rank Name Elo + - games score oppo. draws 1 Stockfish 4f55 12 29 29 192 52% 0 51% 2 Komodo 5.1r2 1 29 29 196 ...

Re: Stockfish 100813 94a3608 versus Komodo 3 and Critter 1.6

I like the idea of decreasing time per move as the game nears the end but not how it's achieved in Fischer time controls. I have a cutechess-cli patch that scales the seconds per move down linearly in relation to the sum of the material on board but I'm not sure it's functioning as it should. Being ...

Re: Stockfish 100813 94a3608 versus Komodo 3 and Critter 1.6

Results at 20" per move look promising but more games will paint a clearer picture. Average game length is 45+ minutes. More games to follow... Rank Name Elo + - games score oppo. draws 1 Stockfish 4f55 19 45 45 80 53% 1 46% 2 Critter 1.6a 8 45 45 80 52% -1 46% 3 Komodo 5.1r2 -7 44 44 80 49% -1 53% ...

Re: Stockfish 100813 94a3608 versus Komodo 3 and Critter 1.6

Removing Komodo 3 from the 2/6 match and Komodo 5 from the later 2" per move match, and normalizing by setting Critter's Elo to 0 we have: Rank Name Elo 1 Stockfish 4f55 27 2 Critter 1.6a 0 3 Stockfish 3 -29 Rank Name Elo 1 Stockfish 100813 64 SSE4.2 21 2 Critter 1.6a 64-bit 0 3 Stockfish 3 64bit SS...

Re: Stockfish 100813 94a3608 versus Komodo 3 and Critter 1.6

Now testing with a more recent version (modified 8/15/13) that is functionally equivalent to the current dev version (8/17/2013). Time control is 2" per move. Added -repeat option and all engines now use 64MB hash. I thought some of the Elo gain may have been from the improved time management but th...
