This is because it is achieved on a TSMC 7nm node process, when NVIDIA Titan Xp is still on TSMC 16nm.
More and more, the leading edge will be on the mobile segment where future smartphones will be differentiated mostly by the power of their embedded AI (NPU in SoC) ;-)

For mobile development, the Kirin 980 from Huawei should be out soon offering 5 Teraflops per Watt (yes, it would mean 1 Petaflop for a 200 Watt typical NVIDIA card ;-)

TCEC Season 12 should have started tomorrow and 149 might have dominated its division, who knows.

Indeed, no progress anymore when AlphaZero was progressing smoothly. I'm aware Google is indirectly supporting this project by authorizing people to create several clients aiming at a freely available TPU (in shared mode). Well, this might be settled by having AlphaZero as a special guest on TCEC 11.

Meanwhile, Google has enough time to optimize then scale down a custom version compatible with TCEC hardware :wink:

We learned that the human mind has been very overrated.

This is important for assessing the probability of a forthcoming AGI (Artificial General Intelligence), then ASI (Artificial Super Intelligence).
