Re: chess22k 1.8 released

Very strong Java engine. It appears to be stronger than Carballo. Well done!

Re: MateFinder 9

May be your position is too difficult. Try a #5. [D]rk6/p1r3p1/P3B1Kp/1p2B3/8/8/8/8 w - - 0 1 Current SF could not solve it in some hours. One thread, slow computer. Kind regards Bernhard Yes, the latest Cfish is also failing here. I suppose this shows how aggressively Stockfish reduces/prunes. One...

Re: [SCID Database] Updated FIDE spelling files - February 2

I cleaned up the database a bit. There is now always a comma separating first- and last name. If there are more than two strings (separated by a whitespace) per name, the first string longer than 1 character (periods ignored) will be separated from the rest. This might not be 100% correct, but most ...

Re: Banned from TCEC chat

Maybe it was a Bot who auto-banned you. In the TCEC Chat you have to be really, really careful what you say. I was permanently banned for using the word "butthurt" back then when they still had the chatwing system. But it was no moderator, it was a script that banned me. No warning or explanation ei...

Re: [SCID Database] Updated FIDE spelling files - February 2

But my beef with SCID is that ALL periods are removed after initials when I use "Spell Checking of Players". So if I have "Fischer, R.", the spell check corrects it to "Fischer, R". That is still not SCID's fault. SCID uses exactly the names as specified in the spelling file. If the spelling file s...

Re: [SCID Database] Updated FIDE spelling files - February 2

It's not SCID's fault. It's not the spellcheck files' fault. It's the fault of the people who register a name in the FIDE database. I don't know exactly how it works. Is it the player who registers an account at FIDE? Take a look at the FIDE Database and you can see that there is no consistent way o...

[SCID Database] Updated FIDE spelling files - February 2018+

The SCID spelling files are useful if you like to have the full names in your database (e.g. "Carlsen, Magnus" instead of "Carlsen, M") and for general database maintenance. After importing games from a pgn-source (like TWIC) you can automatically rename the player names (only works flawlessly for u...

Re: about using winboard

I had been using Linux as only operating system during 9 years, from 2001 to 2010, so I do know how to use it. But, too many issues to work around, constantly. But using Linux and wondering that no good GUI for you-name-it exists, that's funny. I agree that some open source developers are better at...

Re: about using winboard

H.G.Muller said in another thread that winboard is the best GUI. Given that the Winboard website http://hgm.nubati.net/ has been completely unmaintained for years (not even https available!) and offers 4.8.0, or instead links to a forum post where 4.8.0 is also latest stable, the first barrier is a...
