Re: Bad Bishop win

In this position [d] 2r2rk1/p2qbppp/4p3/1p1pP3/1n1P4/5N1P/PP1BQPP1/R2R2K1 w - - 1 17 Leela played 17.h4!? This move never occurs to my stockfish@home, even 17.Kh1 would be preferred. After having established the thorn pawn leela violently opens the queen side with 26.a4!? [d] 2r3k1/3qbp1p/p1r1p1pP/1...

Fawn pawn win !?

Interesting game, worth studying i think. The superiority of black on the queenside is obvious, moreover white has the "bad bishop", which is not an active piece in any case. So why is white able to sacrifice d4? Stockfish itself will help us: [d]2r3k1/3qbp1p/p3p1pP/P2pP3/2rP4/5NP1/2nBQPK1/2RR4 b - ...

Re: which stockfish build to use

Open "Windows Powershell" or a command window, "cd <path to executables>" and try in turn "<name>.exe bench". If the command terminates immediately, you cannot use that build on your processor, otherwise wait until the test completes and check the line "Total time (ms): <number". Lower is better.

Re: You lost to a cheater

I see this regularily, maybe once in two or three weeks. My lichess rating flatters around 2250 currently, which is extremly bad considering that i am an FM. Back in the days, when programs like Fritz or Shredder dominated, you could spot a cheater in an instant, because they would flood you with in...

Re: Are opening principles correct?

It believes Qe7+ is better than Qd7 even at depth 40 because it seems to believe e3 is bad for the bishop The main line after Qd7 does not include Be3 but the plan 0-0 Re1 Nbd2 Nf1 Ne3 Here is the main lines at depth 40:Qf6 and Qe7 are considered to be best moves. I used default contempt in the ana...

Re: Are opening principles correct?

Even more funny: It believes, that it is advantagous to lure to bishop c1 to e3 and then playing Qd7. Really? I don't think so. Do you use "Contempt = Both"? If so, you might want to try to set "Contempt=Off". This gives more conservative play and more stable evaluations, i think.

Re: Anna Rudolf analyzes a game of AlphaZero's

Thanks for the link.
It is a beautiful game. It feels almost like magic, especially Kb1! and Ka1! in the midst of the skirmish. Both moves are very deeply understood my AlphaZero.

Re: To analysis.sesse.net owner : disable contempt

Please can you explain, why setting "Contempt=Both" is so unbearable in analysis mode? At the very least it relieves us from useless 3-fold repetitions in the pv, which were really a plague, as you might recall. You can't use it in analysis mode when playing moves back and forth, it pollutes the ha...
