Re: Komodo 13.01 MCTS - chess960 results and site updated

Yes FRC is the prime candidate. The 50 positions was from the Rybka forum more than 10 years ago: "Stefan Pohl has created a set of 50 shuffle chess positions, which can be used as an opening database for testing. There are NO castlings possible, and the set does NOT contain any Chess960 positions....

Re: Bluefish vs Leela in TCEC , who will win? BF =170 Threads, Lc0 =2x GPU

Are you serious ???? Aesthetic ???? Playing on for a 100 moves when a mate in 12 is there is not aesthetics! An engine is an analysis tool that is supposed to help us analyze a chess position so that we can train and learn from it. This really makes Lc0 useless to analyze as a stand alone engine an...

Re: New Release of Francesca - 0.22

It looks like I was wrong about the USCF rules. That's how I remembered them. Anyway, 'common sense' can be somewhat subjective and opinion-driven and may actually vary based on the entities competing. As a chess player I feel it's wrong to adjudicate certain endgames that are virtually unwin...

Re: New Release of Francesca - 0.22

Sorry, Tom, after I made the previous post I ran into the following passage in CECP protocol specs (towards the end of Section 9): Note that (in accordance with FIDE rules) only KK, KNK, KBK and KBKB with all bishops on the same color can be claimed as draws on the basis of insufficient mating mate...

Re: Lc0 51010

Excuse me for a moment, but where does one set nodes or depth for Leela? I'm looking at the uci options in the GUI, but I must be missing something.

Thanks in advance!

Re: LcZ, the world's first neural net based chess engine and interactive fiction amalgamation

Hey, you forgot to mention anything about LcZ's miraculously perfect endgame play, in part due to the new cutting-edge 9-man proprietary tablebases (erm..., what are they called, again?) :o :P

Re: Stockfish based (ThothFishv1.0) Leela-Killer

To me, the more interesting and revolutionary option is to set ThothFish to avoid trades. This is the real ground-breaker here. An engine that has a preference for closed positions and thriving on them. This is unlike anything we've seen before from an AB-type engine. But if you set that option, wo...

Re: Stockfish based (ThothFishv1.0) Leela-Killer

I guess this confirms my suspicion that aggressively trading against NN engines (by an AB engine) is advantageous to the AB engine. Basically you have the positional stage when there are still a lot of pieces on the board and the tactical stage when there are few. And by shortening the positional s...

Re: ThothFishv1.0

This is a significant development, imo. We're finally getting a version of SF with a de facto adjustable smart contempt, including the ability to avoid trades, similar to what Komodo offers. A great feature to have and long awaited. In my test games, it shows it can deliver a mean game, preferring c...
