Re: Do you test engines with or without using a book?

Just curious how most people test engines when running a match or tournament. I usually run them without. Well my opinion is you should use a book...you must anyway because many of these engines have their own books anyway (ex. Deep Junior, Arasan Pedone Crafty) so you need a book sometimes...Chess...

Alpha Zero vs Stockfish (8) vs Leela Zero (Lc0)

Well Fellow Citizens it seems the "Deep Mind Group" may have given up on their 'Alpha Zero Chess Project' with the release of their coding for the aforementioned chess engine (Alpha Zero Basic Code) With the release of that code..it is the wish of many Chess enthusiasts (myself included) that the co...

Re: I got the permission by Steen Surrballe (Gandalf) ...

Hi there, I had forgotten ... The learn files are important for Steen, but I have forgotten the information around the learn files. But I know that Steen made here often updates. Not easy to handle the learn files, with Fritz GUI and Fritz Adapter for WB engines ... Gandalf produced problems after ...

Adventures with Android 10..Acid Ape & Chess for Android

By sheer poor luck my power connector on my Huawei tablet stopped charging my tablet (motherboard issues) and I purchased a brand new Android 10 tablet (4 cores 32G) I fugured it could be a blessing in disguise as I could run some of the newer arm 8 engines in Chess for android and clear up some of ...

Re: Wasp 4.5 Released

Wasp 4.5 is released today. I estimate it to be about 50 Elo stronger than Wasp 4.0. Many thanks to Frank Quisinsky for hosting Wasp on his website. Here is the link: https://www.amateurschach.de/download/wasp_450.zip Most of the strength increase comes from re-writing the evaluation function to al...

Re: Has there ever been Stockfish clone better than dev version?

I mean significantly stronger. And the answer is NO! Houdini 6 was at same level than SF dev. Obviously one individual cannot improve SF alone? I never download these clones - waste of time. SugaR at it's peak period of Development and change a few year back was possibly a bit better than SF Develo...
