I'm running a CM12 (AOSP-based ROM) beta on my Note 3. Lollipop and material design is a treat.

No issues with any apps I've tried, which are: Chess PGN Master, Droidfish, Chess for Android, Scid on the Go, Analyze This, Komodo 8 (from Play Store) and Shredder Chess.

There are some buggy engines that incorrectly believe that UCI options are case sensitive though. A workaround for those buggy engines have been implemented in the development version of DroidFish. So far Chess PGN Master is the only Android app with this functioning properly. Droidfish's implementation is yet to work fully. Would love the functionality on Chess for Android!

Most of the Android chess apps/GUIs (apart from Chess PGN Master) do not allow displaying and/or changing of the UCI parameters of the selected engine. Stockfish 5 is also much stronger on Android (from my testing), so if he'd used SF, I think it could have been a whitewash.

He used an LG Optimus G Pro which has a 1.7ghz quad-core processor - the Snapdragon 600.

Komodo 8 is using all four cores.
