Re: Mikhalevski vs Komodo match

Our handicap match with GM Victor Mikhalevski (FIDE 2528, FIDE Rapid 2590, age 43) starts tomorrow, Jan. 2. It is unfortunate that this is so close in time to our match with Nakamura starting Jan.6, but the Mikhalevski match was scheduled before the Nakamura match was rescheduled. It will be a six ...

Re: Surprise result 16 cores from CSS forum

Over on fishtest, a suggestion is being raised that AMD chips indeed behave quite differently; that is, even once you control for NPS, details of the architecture make the relative performance of intel and AMD quite different (stronger in some workloads, weaker in others). Different generations of ...

Re: Surprise result 16 cores from CSS forum

Hi Graham, don't care what this "great expert" says. Even my i7-4770k is "garbage" as he wrote here, http://talkchess.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=55395&postdays=0&postorder=asc&topic_view=&start=160 If an engine would really suffer significantly from an architecture, it's the engine which is garbage,...

Re: Trialling the new versions now before tourney starts.

Graham,

Thank you for running another interesting tournament !

With such a broad field, there should be many surprises and many interesting things to learn.

Re: Stockfish 7 beta 1

The "artificial" position is from a CCRL 40/4 game. (GrayMatter SVN1604 vs POS 1.20, date 2012-07-16). POS 1.2 is rated 230 elo weaker than RAM 2.0, which is a RANDOM MOVER ! So you're looking at a quality of chess worse than random moves! The fact that these patzers cannot even mate the opponent w...

Re: 8 engine, 8CPU, octo roundrobin 40/40 tournament

Very interesting of you to include not only SF-YBW, but in particular an older version; that means we know there is a reasonable single-core ELO gap between the two SFs playing, so one would expect/hope there is a distinct showing between the two SF versions even with the massive error bars. Especia...

Re: TCEC Season 9

The improvement I'd most like to see is watching the engines think as it's their move. I think this is a very nice suggestion. Ideally the evolution of the pv could be watched on the little pv boards, perhaps with some delayed updates to make it comprehensible. I believe there was a suggestion else...

Re: TCEC Season 9

(I was being sarcastic). But i would NEVER!!!!!!! wish for quicker time cointrols. This would be upsetting. They need as much core power and time as possible, to mazimize level of play as much as practically possible. Neither SF nor Komodo are yet as great as humans, positionally. I'm still wishing...

Re: TCEC Season 9

Time control will be changed from 180' + 30" to 120' + 60" or 90' + 60". Why not go all the way, and play all games at blitz TC's? Or even better, just use the engines of 5 years ago which were weaker than the new ones, and disqualify any engines from after 2010. In fact, then, MORE engines can joi...
