Re: 7-men Syzygy attempt

Is it waste to purchase 10 TB HDD for storing WDL for simple adjudication with cutechess? But is worth the inv...

Re: Is Deep Blue source code open?

AFAIK Deep Blue source code had evaluation function in a generalized form. This function was "trained" and this training data is not part of source code, but rather dynamic data, which can be enhanced with more games thrown on it and also manually intervented by team stuff. I doubt DB can be reprodu...

Re: Big discrepancy between Men's and Women's Prize

no discrepancy, man who play the same level get 100x less. there is much more positive discrimination of woman: they are paid the same as men even if their productivity (based on willingness and abilities) is much lower than of man at same position and they almost never agree to work the same amount...

Re: Which OS is better for chess? Windows or Linux.

The first problem in TOP500 is paying for licenses for a couple of thousand nodes…. If you can get the cost down to $10 each, that is still a couple of $10,000 spent on software… and with that amount you could buy an additional 20 or more nodes. The next problem is license management. There used to ...

Re: Which OS is better for chess? Windows or Linux.

Question is very specific: Windows speed penalty on heavily multhithreaded NUMA machines with at least 16+ threads. If one invest in such machine to run chess engines - Linux or Windows won't matter. But does this penalty really exist? If it exist - it has simple cause which can be fixed in couple m...
