Re: Evaluation of Nf5 sacrifice in Sicilian....

You are absolutely correct Eelco, I have observed that after the capture gxf5, Nh5 is even more demoralizing for white, than Kh8. I believe that with such strong computer chess programs, we will eventually need to rewrite(rethink) many of these sacrificial motifs and also gambit lines! Chess is evol...

That is quite a claim. I'll agree that the competition is getting better, but what you're saying makes very little sense.

Re: Chess Game Analyzer

Simply amazing! I've been looking for a utility such as this for years! Perhaps future editions could include some funny annotations for dubious moves... :D

Evaluation of Nf5 sacrifice in Sicilian....

During a blitz game I came across this position. I personally feel that this sacrifice is sound and aggressive and white has the upper hand, but the engines say otherwise. Here it is... 1. e4 {0} c5 {0} 2. Nf3 d6 {0} 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 a6 6. Bc4 b5 7. Bb3 g6 8. f3 Bg7 9. Be3 O-O 10. Qd2 N...

Hi Matthew,

You're absolutely correct, I am using the current version, but did not include the NN files. I will try this and report back!

Re: New Giraffe (Sept 8)

Hello Carl, The version I played was Giraffe version 20150908, so you are correct, must be an older version. Because it is a Winboard engine, I uploaded it into my old Chessmaster 10th edition platform. Of course, I gave it no openings book. Thank you for loading the game into an interface, but unfo...

Re: New Giraffe (Sept 8)

First off, I want to thank you Matthew for initiating such an innovative and important project, both in chess and psychology. I believe that once we find a successful way to emulate the human thought process (by various means) through computers, it will mark a shift to a new era in the intelligence ...

Re: stockfish 7

How similar has the (latest) StockFish DV's been to the actual releases in the past? I downloaded StockFish DV #070915 (64 bit POPCNT) and this version has shown about 25 ELO increase, give or take a few points. I hope this figure improves when the final version is released!
