Re: chess22k 1.14 released

I've never used Chess22k, but I did manage to get the Carballo java engine working ok in the Fritz 13 GUI a few years ago. I had to put Polyglot.exe and Wb2Uci.exe in the same folder as the java chess engine together with Carballo.ini and Wb2Uci.eng files. Those 2 files were as shown below. I hope i...

Re: REBEL 10 benchmark on modern computer

I tried installing Rebel 10 under MSDOS 6.22 and it requested a serial number. Is there something that can be typed there that it will accept? I get "[0003] This is not an offical Rebel10 Cdrom!" otherwise. "10.001.abc" (without the quotes) used to work for me during Rebel 10 installation in Window...

Re: Is there a name for this opening?

All of the games in my Scid database of engine-engine matches that reach this position are classified as ECO B12x or B12w.
The opening is classified as Caro-Kann advance variation by Scid and also by my "Batsford Chess Openings" book.

Re: Opening Variety is dead

Out of curiosity, I compared the position against the 38,500 engine-engine match games in my Scid database that have been played on my computers over the last 20 years. The position occurs 1881 times which is 4.9% of the games. While Stockfish prefers the most common next move of e3, both Bg5 and Qb...

Re: what is the oldest hardware when engines at GM level?

Apart from the nps, what about the hash value? How does this affect the elo?
Very old computers did not have much ram and could only have a small hash value.

Rebel endgame blunder

I was playing a game today between Rebel 12 (DOS version from 2004 running in Windows 98 in VirtualBox on a linux computer) and Fire 7.1 running in Windows 10 on another computer. I was making the moves manually on each computer. Although Rebel 12 has an auto232 function in its drop down menus, whic...

Re: Effect of UCI filter under Arena

There is a section about the UCI filter option in the Arena 3.5 Help menu. This is what it says - UCI Filter: "UCI Filter" lets Arena ignore useless information that is sent by engines during the first 5 seconds of a search. Important information like mainlines and the best moves will of course alwa...

Re: Shredder Classic 4 and Shredder Classic 5

I just use the actual linux engines in Xboard, not the Shredder GUI.
Classic 4 engine was only 32 bit.
Classic 5 engine is only 64 bit.

Re: Gromit 2.20 Correct Configuration

I still use Gromit 2.20 in tournaments since it is the latest native linux version of the engine. My windows version of Gromit is 3.82, also the latest. After that it became Anaconda which was included with the Fritz 6 GUI from Chessbase. When running Gromit 2.20 (called "engine" as when downloaded ...
