Re: Syzygy 7 piece Machine slow down

Thanks again and for your patience. I'm using Stockfish and have removed the cache setting. I tried disabling the windows paging file but the computer has problem starting up. So I have had to leave the windows paging file back on and have increased the HASH to 14GB and re-tested. Seems fine, but ca...

Re: Syzygy 7 piece Machine slow down

Many thanks. Yes I totally agree with 16GB RAM as a lower limit for 6-piece tb. (15.8GB free on my system of the 16GB) I was even having issues with 6-piece tb prior to this. My solution for 6-piece on my machine is to set my HASH to 9 GB, and the cache setting to 1 GB. (Leaves 8GB of the 9GB HASH f...

Re: Syzygy 7 piece Machine slow down

Hi all thankyou very much. Yes it does appear that the main issue is far too little RAM. I've learnt a few things. Many thanks for all the help. Regards.

Re: Syzygy 7 piece Machine slow down

Forgot to mention that I have this issue in both Arena and Chessbase, so suspect it's a memory allocation issue.

Syzygy 7 piece Machine slow down

Hi my computer system basics are as follows: Windows 10 Pro, 3.1Ghz, 16BG RAM, 64bit-Quad core. I have the more important 7piece Table bases downloaded onto a SSD SATA drive totalling 443GB and more on another drive totalling 219GB. While I'm running Stockfish10 it isn't very long before (going by t...

Re: Tony's positional test suite

Something pointed out in Robin Smith’s book “Modern Chess Analysis” (Gambit books, 2004) are ‘ruler flat’ evaluations which indicate fortress draws. (or the evaluation tendency to ‘settle’ approximately so). This evaluation behavior is further examined in a paper with later engines “Detecting Fortre...

Re: Kasparov-Deep Blue 1997 Game two, Final position summary

I've got a file collating analysis from various places including the excellent postings by Louis Zulli in this whole topic further in this topic. Here is a good summary: - all has been analysed before: 45....Qe3 46.Qxd6 Re8 47.Qd7+ Re7 48.Qc6 Qxe4 49.d6 Qd3+ 50.Kg1 Re8 51.Ra1 h5 From here all the li...

Re: Kasparov-Deep Thought 1997 (second game)

Regarding this analysis line at final iteration depth 20/52:

Instead of 13....Qxh4+ ,Black should not take the pawn here and instead go for the move ....Qd2+. This is seen when letting a good engine analyse at this point.

Re: Tony's positional test suite

Many thanks Dann and Ferdy, this is excellent work. I really appreciate it. Many years ago I had spent a lot of time going through the test suite and finding that eight positions had a positive correlation relating to the SSDF rating of the engines tested on Tony Hedlund's chart. The eight positions...
