Congratulations to Jost (Googleplex author) for gaining promotion into Division 7 of the next series.
Thanks, that's a nice surprise :)

Re: New engine releases 2019

Hello, I have a new version of Googleplex Starthinker :D https://gitlab.com/tsoj/Googleplex_Starthinker/-/tags/1.6 (version 1.5 was a failed development version) There are no new big features, I rather removed a lot and tweaked stuff. Some changes are: - removed aspiration window - removed transposi...

Re: 72nd Amateur Series Division 8

It was nice to visit the live broadcast and see the engines in action. It was a really tough competition and I hope I can improve FrankWalter enough to maybe even compete for a nice result in D7! (because if I don't improve it, FW will be moving back to D8;-) Thank you for organizing the tournament...

So what did we learn? An active king is key, even in middlegame.

Skipper using timeLeftOver/ 60. Doesn't understand increment.

Hardly ever looses on time. On the contrary it loses because of using too less time.
so even if movestogo is given you assume that you have 60 moves to go?

Re: Lazy move generation and move ordering

I have staged move generation in my program and it doesn't change anything performance wise, maybe it is even a little worse than generating all moves at once (probably because it's quite a lazy implementation by me but anyway).

Two first Minic wins against Fruit2.1, even one with black pieces 8-)

The rest of the 10 short TC games gives 7 wins for Fruit, 2 for Minic and 1 draw ... glad with that ...
What ELO would fruit 2.1 have in CCRL?

Re: "Googleplex Starthinker" chess engine

I am sorry, I completely missed that 'Googleplex Starthinker' was meant as a reference to the supercomputer in a 'hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy' and not to the googleplex building :( There is a new release (1.4), mainly fixed segfaults that happen because I thought that 64 quiet moves are ...

Re: fast(er) movegen

Have you done some profiling like perf record -g ./bin/binary perf report -g "graph,0.5,caller" with compiler option -fno-omit-frame-pointer? My perft function is also not really fast. However, it seems like the move generator takes only 7% of the total search time, while the evaluation takes about ...
