Re: Official Release of Ethereal 12.00

I think what people are trying to point out here is that the log doesn't show a 'bestmove' command from the engine in reply to 'stop'. Failing to send the 'bestmove;'' would be a violation of the UCI specs, and it is quite conceivable that some GUIs would hang forever while waiting for it. Any prog...

Re: Official Release of Ethereal 12.00

When I select the "Analyze" button in Arena, with the time set to Infinite, Ethereal starts to output lines of play. When I make a move, the engine is sent "stop", an "isready", and then the updated position followed by a "go infinite" command. Not my experience. I can have Arena's main window and ...

Re: Official Release of Ethereal 12.00

Note that if there's a problem that can only be reproduced on a certain GUI it should be a GUI's bug, because any engine's bug should be reproducible from the Console (if the console works right, the GUI should work right, unless the GUI is doing something it's not supposed to.) It crashes on Scidv...

Re: Official Release of Ethereal 12.00

Marek is correct. Even in Fritz GUI Ethereal has issues probably with stops still and You can't use it as other UCI engines! ... I'm not sure what you think is the problem here? Is it the final ">>stop"? If so, that is what I would expect, and its the job of your GUI to again ask the engine to "go ...

try this version:

Thanks for trying. Unfortunately it stalls or freezes, like the other one, when a new move is played in infinite analysis.

Is Ethereal okay, when infinitely analysing, in all your GUIs Dann?

Re: Official Release of Ethereal 12.00

If your GUI provides UCI logs, both input and output, I would be happy to look at it and address the issue as fast as possible. Here's what I get if I analyse from a middlegame position and then play the move suggested. >>uci <<id name Ethereal 12.00 <<id author Andrew Grant, Alayan & Laldon <<opti...

Re: Official Release of Ethereal 12.00

Thank you for your interesting engine! I use it for infinite analysis within Aquarium, where unfortunately it doesn't behave like other engines. (If I remember, previous versions of Ethereal were the same.) When the analysis is stopped, the engine doesn't unload properly and I have to kill it in Ta...
