Re: Martin on the SF loss on time

I must admit I was surprised to read how Martin decidedly rejected the idea of just increasing this lag parameter. It seemed the natural thing to do (and in fact not setting it to a safer value was a mistake in the first place).. Indeed. In the past, Martin has changed Komodo's default contempt par...

Re: Martin on the SF loss on time

Makes me appreciate how great were Leo's WBEC tournaments. Unfortunately the details of his rules are no longer available online. But based on my memory: He had a mini pre-tournament to weed out engines that didn't work properly. He allowed replacement engines early on only. The replacement was usu...

Re: Scaling

Cool numbers. Mine are in the 80's, the good old days so to say  I am currently trying improve here. I was chatting with Fabien about this kind of thing when Senpai came out. He noticed Senpai was better than Hannibal at fast games, but in long games Hannibal was better. Early on I found some...

I imagine it would not be that hard to modify the Komodo search to have the first 7 moves be for white and going to the first 4 ranks. It would give you a decent estimate.

Re: Four wild handicaps for FM level player.

King on e5 sounds hilarious and fun. I have not been following many of the handicap games, but that I would have to see.

Re: good game in progress now. hannibal-pedone

Thanks! I watched that game, was very fun. We recently cranked up the aggression in the internal version and its been playing some very cool games. There is some risk against top engines of the attacks just fizzling out at some point and Hannibal just losing, but so be it. The style right now seems ...

Re: Hannibal 1.5 bug

Sam has been active lately with development and I think we are halfway to our new version. Hello, do you plan to release the TCEC version any time soon? Thanks! We were just discussing that. We are still making very good progress, and are considering just keeping the improvements flowing until we h...

Re: 7 men Rook endgames H4 vs SF in recent TCEC stage 1b.

According to Lomonosov it's a draw. I guess this sort of falsifies the belief that strong engines would know how to handle such positions by their normal search and evaluation. If I counted right there are only 208 possible Pawn constellations reachable from this position, when I allow the Pawns to...

Most people do not search SEE-losing captures in QS. It is impressive you managed to build such a strong engine without doing this, as the QS can really explode if you search all captures all the time.
