Re: Time per gigatype RAM with NN engines to exhaustion

With an RTX 2080, how fast does it consume RAM? I have found that my 1080TI eats 32 GB in an hour, and the analysis slows to a crawl (and the machine starts to get balky). If you have 2x RTX2080, what is the maximum time you can analyze before RAM is exhausted with 64 GB and with 128 GB? Has anyone...

Re: AMD Ryzen R9 3950X new build

I would want 3 NVMe internal drives for Win10; 7-man TBs; everything else. (No more HDDs in any personal computer systems.) Each NVMe drive uses 4x PCIe slots. 3x NVMe drives is 12x PCIe lanes, I'm not even sure if an AM4 motherboard would support so many NVMe SSDs. ASUS PRIME X570-PRO mobo: Expans...

Re: AlphaZero No Castling Chess

It seems odd that they didn't discuss the draw-rate of this variant. Or did I miss it? The two example games listed there are draws. I think Chess should have sharper games overall with a lower draw rate. Armageddon chess is a good step forward, but seems to favor Black. There have been other discus...

Re: AMD Ryzen R9 3950X new build

One of Threadripper's primary advantages is 64x PCIe lanes. Granted, many of those are used for Ethernet / SATA / Sound / USB / NVMe / etc. etc., but most Threadripper MoBos offer 48x PCIe lanes of expansion (16+16+8+8). So a Threadripper build should be looking at 3x GPUs or 4x GPUs if you're think...

Re: get a tr3 workstation configured

On the first look these seem to be machines for gamers... Its been less than a month since the release of Threadripper 3. No sane workstation supplier would offer a product so close to launch before the "gamers" have ironed out the issues. PugetSystems over at Reddit, has claimed that they've begun...

Re: 32 core Threadripper about 100M NPS

Ipman chess recorded the frequency for the threadripper tests. They are above stock frequency. That's quite typical these days. The implementations are different, but both Intel (Turbo Boost) and AMD (Turbo Core) automatically overclock your systems even at stock settings. All modern CPUs (everythi...

Re: New DeepMind paper [MuZero]

Beyond this, all that will remain will be to make the EF smaller and faster. What if the only way to make it faster was to make it bigger? I picture it as an Immense Evaluation Function, say, some 80GB of chess data that stores chess patters and is able to tell you what is the best move by looking ...

Re: Configure a threadripper 3 workstation with up to 4 GPUs

Two GPUs will be x16, while two will be x8. Thanks for looking into that. While the current GPUs can be handled at full throttle over the x8 channel, future GPUs maybe not. So I will wait for the WRX boards instead. I've been making progress with my AB-parallel algorithm, and I don't think it is co...

Re: Configure a threadripper 3 workstation with up to 4 GPUs

If anyone is a build-your-own PC person, the motherboard is a Gigabyte TRX40 Designare.

Two GPUs will be x16, while two will be x8.
