Re: Release: FEOBOS v20.1 available, sorry!
As the c) lines contain moves that are weak, these lines are not interesting. A weaker move by one side is cancelled out by a weaker move by the other side, making it 'playable' according to the engines evals. Humans will never select such a line, though. Maybe the b) lines are of some interest to p...

Re: Release: FEOBOS v20.1 available, sorry!
I see another big problem: The spit out evals are not stable. Yes. A +0.20 might turn into a +0.50 if you double, triple or quadruple the time. And a -0.50 might only be -0.15 when given more time. BTW, what do you do if the 3 strongest engines say +0.20 and the others +0.50? Skip the line? Or foll...

Re: Release: FEOBOS v20.1 available, sorry!
Two quotes from Frank in the discussion in the CSS forum: " Aber mein Buch ist das Beste..... " " Durch das studieren der FEOBOS Excel wird Wissen erzeugt!! " I took a quick look, but the FEOBOS books either plays: a) a line that is well known and is the main line in many other books; b) an exotic l...

Re: SALC V5 openings and books launched
a simple one-minute analysis of the endposition of an opening is good for deleting very bad positions. But it is not the “truth“ about that opening-line, only a hint/suggestion. One or two moves later, the eval can be complete different. Thats the reason, why the FEOBOS-project will fail, by the wa...

Re: SALC V5 openings and books launched
I just filtered out the games from Stefan's book using the criteria I mentioned. I.e. elo both human players above 2500, eval higher than +0.30 or lower than -0.30 (I believe the eval is from Komodo), no further analysis by myself and cutting the position after the 2nd castling has been made.

Re: SALC V5 openings and books launched
Got it. The problem is, as I said, the size: Only 165 positions/lines were left (out of 25000)... Thats not enough for anything. For a LTC match 165 positions is more than enough, the TCEC superfinal only uses 50 positions :-). Just add a small hint, that it came from SALC, please. For my TCEC 9 an...

Re: SALC V5 openings and books launched
Hi Stefan,
I made a SALC version using the specified conditions above, i.e.:
1. Use the 25,000 games SALC book
2. Both players at least 2500 elo
3. End eval above +0.30, or -0.30 and lower
4. Capped at the 2nd castling (if possible)
I will PM the link to you.
Kind regards, Jeroen

Re: SALC V5 openings and books launched
Hi Stefan, Thanks for your new SALC openingbook. I always like opposite castling (I also include such positions in my TCEC superfinal sets), it adds asymmetry to the game, which is a plus considering the high draw rate between the top engines. F.e. in games with castling on the same side, you can ex...
