Hi T. Poppins, In most fianchetto lines white is slightly better. The top engines are clearly struggling to find the right plans for black, according to Kotronias. In my view the idea that engines are able to conclude which opening positions are balanced and which ones are not, on the basis of a very short one-move-book-exit analysis, is simply wrong. Isn't it possible to estimate the quality of the opponent by evaluating its moves during the game?

An example: if the opponent makes a few inaccurate moves in the first 20 moves of the game, adjust the contempt factor etc.

As far as I am concerned, games starting with 1.a4, 1.Na3, 1.Nh3 etc are totally uninteresting.
