Re: A word on random opening

In the aim of generating training data with/for Minic, I am using random move for n-ply, then starts to play. If n is odd (meaning that white plays one more random move than black) then black score is better than white. This looks natural. But if n is even (i've try 6, 8 and 10), white is also loos...

Re: Using LC0 with one or two GPUs - a guide

A lill update for the guide... - PCIe lanes A common GPU uses 16x lanes, 8x should be sufficient with current Lc0, 4x might have performance penalties of estimated 5%. http://talkchess.com/forum3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=72696&p=824192#p824192 - External GPU eGPU uses commonly Thunderbolt (resp. upcomin...

Re: I stumbled upon this article on the new Nvidia RTX GPUs

3070 -----> 16.8 knps 2080 Ti -----> 21.3 knps 3080 -----> 25.2 knps 3090 -----> 30.6 knps 2080 Super -----> 15.5 knps 2070 Super -----> 13.2 knps My 2070 -----> 11.5 knps Pretty disappointing, less than 30% faster than 2070 Super. In games 3070 is on par with 2080 Ti. Maybe the 3070 will improve w...

Re: What is the magical incantation to make LC0 use both?

I am forced to conclude that you cannot use two GPUs with Arena. At least, you clearly cannot do that by following the directions on the LC0 site or following the blog they point to because they admit their own instructions are too old. I am not sure why I wanted it to work so badly anyway. SF with...

Re: What is the magical incantation to make LC0 use both?

It's rather embarrassing, because I had it working before, but I cannot seem to figure it out with the new binaries. On the other hand, the new binaries are so much better than I am getting the same NPS on a single card. On the other other hand, when I see one card sitting idle in performance monit...

Re: Graphics Card

The speed of Lc0 is not the same at say 0.5 s/move and 20 s/move. I mean 2x faster hardware at any position or time control. E.g. GPU #1 is 5 knps after 1 min at some position and GPU #2 is 10 knps after 1/2 min on the same position. What will be ELO difference if run machine with GPU #1 vs machine...

Re: I stumbled upon this article on the new Nvidia RTX GPUs

Hmmm, the things changed a bit with the v26.3 engine and CUDA backend. The previous graph in the thread was for v26 engine and OpenCL backend. The new CUDA backend (it's the fastest one with RTX GPUs) shows the largest improvement with RTX 2xxx GPUs and smaller with RTX 3xxx. So that I saw a benchm...

Re: Graphics Card

Please point topic where Lc0 scalability (diminishing returns of speed vs ELO) were discussed. How many ELO one would expect from 2x speed I am not aware of such experiments. I myself haven't checked in detail because there are differences in scalability between 2x time and 2x nodes. The speed of L...

Re: Komodo 14.1 Release and Dragon Announcement

Strange. For ages the marketing line / general understanding is that SF has the better search, and Komodo the better EF. That changed when Stockfish adopted neural networks for its evaluation function earlier this year. Then all of a sudden Stockfish had a much superior evaluation function over Kom...
