Re: Question: New Mini-Laptops

What do you fellows think of this mini laptop, for playing dummied down Winboard engines :D http://laptoping.com/3k-razorbook-400-ce-3k-rz400-4gb-win.html Sean It depends of how strong are you, on this hardware even an old Crafty would be about 2400-2500 Elo strong. On my P-200, Crafty 17.XX beated...

It's not because of that, RAM doesn't matter, as 2Giga are enough for even a long game. 60-70% speedup is due to the fact that Rybka is a bitboard engine, unlike Fruit.

Alekhine was half-a-day drunk, 3 hours devoting to his cat, and the rest of the day sleeping.

Re: Hey Harvey, Maybe you should try single-core next year

Your'e stifling innovation and common nature in the name of competition. There is no excuse for crippling. Not in CC, BB, Soccer, or any other sport. If there was one, you would be living in an absurd world where better individuals are punished because they are better. Way to go. That is all fine, ...

Funny, 12 Rybka plies mean 14-15 Fritz plies and 15-17 Junior plies. Rybka will win with 100% score. The idea is ridiculous, as programmers will start tweaking ply depth showed.

You are right! How do you define "twice as strong"? :P
To score 2/3 against the opponent :P
(means 120 Elo points more, which is more than 60-70 points from doubling the speed).

Re: Having more than one machine to test

I use the same EPD file for starting positions and the same time settings. Ahhh, ok, so expect very similar games and scores. The sensitivity to CPU speed is very low in a fixed position. Better use three different EPD files, one for each comp, and adjust the time so that CPU speed (better to say K...

Re: Having more than one machine to test

What do you mean by 'same result'? Are the games the same? The final standings? Or the result of very game. It depends a lot on what exactly you play. If I play Joker against Fruit, the result is always the same... I mean I obtein the same score. I launch a gountlet tournament with 12 opponen...

Agreed. Junior can play some openings like no one else. Who is playing white?
